The Wedding Guest Book

An Amicorum wedding guest book is written by the people who love you. Before the wedding and after it, your guests add notes, recipes, and photographs from a private link, and the pages are printed and bound as a hardcover book.

What does a guest add?

More than a signature. Each guest opens your private link and adds a note, a recipe, or a photograph.

  • A note: a memory of the two of you, a piece of advice, or the words they hope you will read on a difficult day.
  • A recipe: the dish they are known for, or the one their family has made for generations.
  • A photograph: an old snapshot, a picture from the day, a face you will want to see again in twenty years.

What can you ask your guests for?

A blank page asks for very little. A question gives a guest somewhere to begin. When you share the link, you might ask for one of these:

  • A memory of the two of us that makes you smile.
  • The best advice you were ever given about marriage.
  • The recipe we should learn to cook together.
  • A photograph of us that we have never seen.
  • A few words for us to read on our tenth anniversary.

When do guests write?

Before the wedding or after it, in their own time. Share the link in a message, an email, or on an invitation, and each guest writes from a phone or a computer, with no app and no account.

No one has to find the right words while a line waits behind them.

What about the people who cannot be there?

They are included in the same way. A grandparent who cannot travel, or a friend living overseas, opens the same link and adds a page. The book holds everyone who matters to you, not only those who were in the room.

Who decides what goes in?

You do. Every contribution comes to you first, to read, correct, put in order, or leave out. You see the whole book, page by page, before anything is printed, and nothing goes to print until you have approved it.

Where does the idea come from?

From a custom nearly five hundred years old. In the 16th century, students and scholars carried an album amicorum, a “book of friends”, and the people they met wrote in it: a signature, a motto, a verse, sometimes a drawing. Over the years it became a record of a life told by its friendships.

An open book, small and thick. The left page is printed, with a woodcut of an obelisk wound with ivy. On the right page a coat of arms is painted in gold, silver, and red above five lines of Latin handwriting.
The album of Seino Mulert, a printed book of emblems with room for friends to write. The entry on the right, under a painted coat of arms, is dated May 1564. Koninklijke Bibliotheek, The Hague. Public domain.

Amicorum brings that book back for a wedding.

The history of the album amicorum

What is the book like?

It is a hardcover book, printed on acid-free paper. Our print partner prints and binds it and ships it to your door.

The sizes and the cover materials will be confirmed before the first print run.

What does it cost, and when does it open?

Prices have not been set yet. They will be announced before the first print run begins, and the people on the waitlist will be the first to hear.

The first books are planned for the inaugural 2026/2027 print run, and entry will be by invitation to those who signed up for the waitlist. At launch, books are shipped within the United States.
